Cardain Communications was set up by Joanne Smalley in 2016.  Joanne’s experience lies in helping businesses kick-start their marketing efforts, whether that be for start-ups who need help with their go-to-market strategy, organisations with no in-house marketing specialism, or for businesses with a marketing function that needs support and guidance to help reach their full potential.

With over 20 years’ experience in a variety of marketing roles in companies ranging from start-up all the way through to multi-national blue chips, Joanne’s focus is output driven – getting her clients to success as quickly as possible. She takes a highly pragmatic approach to marketing strategy and delivery, with a razor focus on outputs and client deliverables.

Marc is a Gibraltar lawyer with over 25 years’ experience. He is the Managing Partner of Ellul & Co. (www.ellul.gi) and the Managing Director of the firm’s company management business, Ellul & Co. Corporate Services. He is also a Notary Public.

Marc began practising in London in 1993 and established himself in Gibraltar in 1995. He was a general practitioner during his early career, undertaking criminal and civil litigation, property, corporate and private client work. He now mainly practises as a corporate, funds, tax, private client and financial services lawyer and leads the firm’s fintech team. He is actively involved in blockchain work in Gibraltar advising on the set-up of regulated cryptocurrency exchanges, token sales and on the establishment of digital asset investment funds.

He is also Chairman of the Gibraltar Finance Centre Council. Representatives of all of Gibraltar’s financial services industry associations are members of this Council whose objects are to promote the economic interests of Gibraltar by developing the finance centre. The Council meets regularly with the Minister for Commerce, Government officials and the financial services regulator, the Gibraltar Financial Services Commission, and has an important role in shaping finance centre policy and legislation.

Between 2012 and 2013, he was Chairman of the Company Law Reform Committee which updated the Companies Act in 2014. In 2013, as a member of the Technical Committee of the Gibraltar Funds and Investment Association, he formed part of the team that drew up the Code of Conduct for Directors of Gibraltar Experienced Investor Funds. In 2014 he was Chairman of the Company Law Reform Committee which brought about extensive changes to the Gibraltar Companies Act. In 2016, Marc formed a part of the team which drew up the anti-money laundering guidance notes for legal practitioners.
